Here we showcase our research programs targeting the discovery of new treatments for respiratory and inflammatory diseases, as well as our work in exciting new areas of endocrinology, bone biology and neurodegenerative disorders.Through on-going prostaglandin research we are continuing to build on knowledge gained during the development of VIOXX®. Prostaglandins are implicated in pain, inflammation, incontinence, allergic rhinitis and many other conditions. The biochemistry group in the MerckFrosst Centre for Therapeutic Research develops the assays used to determine how new compounds interact with biological systems. There are two research strands: enzymes and receptors. Students in our laboratories help our researchers pursue novel and innovative research and many also carry out their own projects. |
